Full Facelift vs. Mini Facelift

Have you looked yourself into the mirror and noticed that you don’t look as young and vibrant as you used to? It could be wrinkles, creases, or sagging skin, but all are natural signs of aging. Luckily, there are two great options available to correct such problems through surgical procedures: full facelift or mini facelift. Learning the difference between both procedures will help you determine which one is best for you.  Ultimately, Dr. Zuliani will determine which procedure and techniques will be right for you during your surgical consultation.

Full Facelift and Mini Facelift Are Surgical Procedures

The two types of facelifts are both surgical procedures designed to reduce signs of aging or address other facial concerns. Our certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Giancarlo Zuliani, will use a general anesthetic during a mini facelift and full facelift. Both procedures involve creating small incisions and will require downtime afterwards.

What Is Involved in the Procedures?

A full facelift procedure separates tissue, skin, and muscle so that plastic surgeons can remove, tighten and contour the tissue as required. The results of this procedure will last longer compared to dermal injection and other facial procedures.  The areas addressed in a full facelift are the mid-face, jowls and neck, leaving a smoother, more defined, rejuvenated appearance for years to come.

In comparison, a mini facelift only addresses a smaller section of your face, involves a shorter scar, and mainly focusing on the jowl and neck area. Dr. Giancarlo Zuliani will remove and adjust less tissue, and it will require less time to complete.

Recovery

Both a mini and full facelift, will be performed in the hospital and you will be able to go home the same day.  Dr. Zuliani will want to see you the very next day, in-office for a follow-up.  Your acute bruising and swelling with both procedures will last 7 to 10 days with the swelling taking up to 4 weeks in a mini facelift and 6 weeks in a full facelift to completely subside.  At three weeks you will be well on your way to enjoying your fully healed results with both procedures!  The healing time is a bit longer for the full facelift, as it is more of an extensive procedure.  Dr. Zuliani will fully explain the healing process to you at your consultation and again at your pre-op visit.

Longevity of the Results

Both a mini facelift and a full facelift involve changes to your facial tissues and skin. The results from both procedures are consider long lasting, especially compared to non-surgical facial procedures. You can expect to enjoy the rejuvenation of a mini facelift for around five years. In comparison, the benefits of a full facelift may last closer to 10 years. The reason for this difference is that only a small section of your skin was tightened during the mini facelift. After some time, the other parts begin to sag, and the wrinkles deepen and crease.  Keep in mind, your health, skin care and genetics play a big role in the longevity of any procedure you do.  Remember, you will continue to age.

Which Procedure Is Right For Me?

If you want to correct major issues on your face, a mini facelift will not be the best procedure for you. The mini facelift is perfect for anyone whose aim is to solve minor sagging in parts such as the neck, jaw, and lower face. To determine the best facelift procedure for you, it is advisable to consult our plastic surgeon. Dr. Giancarlo Zuliani will examine and give you the confidence you require in choosing the right procedure.
