Should I Combine Facelift with Eyelid Surgery?

Both a facelift and eyelid surgery, (blepharoplasty) can take years off your face and leave you with a more youthful appearance. If you are considering one, or both, of these procedures it may be a good idea to consider undergoing both at the same time. This comes with many different benefits, and your plastic surgeon can help you create the ideal surgical plan to address your concerns. Here are some of the benefits of this combination procedure.

A More Natural Look

Cosmetic surgery can improve your look and greatly increase your self-confidence and self-esteem. Procedures are, however, limited in what they can do. A facelift can help improve the look of your cheeks, neck and jowls, but it does not address droopy eyelids or tired eyes. Eyelid surgery has similar limitations.  An upper blepharoplasty will only remove and tighten skin on the upper lids whereas a lower blepharoplasty will need to be performed to address the fat or puffiness under the eyes.

If your concerns are focused on only your eyes, eyelid surgery alone may help you. Some patients find, however, that more youthful-looking eyes accentuate other signs of aging. This means your results can look less natural on one part of your face as another appears to look younger. In this case, you can benefit from a combination procedure to make sure you achieve consistent results.

Less Downtime

Dr. Zuliani and his team will do everything they can to ensure that your post-surgical recovery is as fast and comfortable as possible. The healing process shouldn’t be rushed, however, and you’ll need to take some downtime. If you have eyelid surgery and then opt for a facelift later, you’ll need to undergo two separate surgeries and two separate recoveries. By combining the procedures, you can limit yourself to one recovery period rather than disrupting your routine twice.

Less Expense

In most cases, insurance companies consider eyelid surgeries and facelifts as cosmetic procedures. So, when paying for your surgery out of pocket, it can be helpful to reduce surgical costs. Combining procedures is one way to help. Of course, you’ll have to pay for both the eyelid surgery and facelift if you decide to undergo both at once, but you’ll only pay surgical fees and associated costs once. You’ll have only one round of anesthesia and the use of surgical facilities rather than two, for example. If you think you may wish to undergo both operations, doing them at the same time can provide significant savings.
