Lip Augmentation Revision Surgery

Who might benefit from a Lip Reduction?

Dr. Zuliani recommends a lip reduction for women and men who are unhappy or are experiencing complications with a previous lip augmentation procedure, or for those with naturally full lips. Problems like chronic swelling and inflammation, pain and discomfort, unevenness in symmetry and balance, and the development of bumps can all arise from prior silicone lip enhancement. How is a Lip Reduction performed?

Dr. Zuliani performs the lip-reduction procedure at his office in Bloomfield Hills. After a thorough examination your lips, a specific surgical plan based on your personal needs and desired outcome will be discussed to address the problem silicone.

The procedure is most commonly performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Zuliani makes a horizontal incision behind the lips inside the mouth in order to access and reduce the silicone, as well as remove any excess scar tissue and lip skin to achieve the best results. Dissolvable sutures are used to close the incision. Dr. Zuliani may also recommend a lip lift in conjunction with a reduction for ideal results.

What can be expected after a Lip Reduction?

Each lip-reduction patient will experience a different recovery, depending on the extent of the surgery.

Swelling after the procedure is common and can last for 2-3 weeks before subsiding. There’s usually minimal pain or discomfort associated with healing and patients may be advised to apply ice and take a pain medication to limit these side effects. The resulting scar may feel thick and obtruding for several weeks, but it will become undetectable over time. There are no visible scars from this procedure as all incisions are concealed behind the lips.

Patients can usually return to work and normal activities within one week of surgery. Full recovery is generally expected after 1-2 weeks, but outcomes vary from patient to patient. Complete results are seen at about 2-3 months following surgery.
